Statutární město Ostrava
Ostrava is the third-largest city in the Czech Republic, both in terms of size and population. The first people settled in this area over 25 thousand years ago. The oldest written record of the Silesian Ostrava settlement dates from 1229; the city itself was founded around 1267. Today, Ostrava is a modern regional centre of education, culture and sport. There continues to be a strong industrial tradition here, which incorporates the most recent trends and technologies, including use of the national supercomputing centre.
